Crippled Womanhood: My Body Is A Barren Wasteland
2024. Video with original sound.
In this video, I explore the ideas of female objectification through the lens of disability and chronic illness. Women who cannot have or care for children are less valuable in a patriarchal system, in which women are expected to be caregivers rather than needing care, themselves. Many disabled women forego having children out of fear that they will not be able to care for them, or that they might pass their disability onto their children. This piece aims to show this complex relationship between disability, sexuality, and motherhood through the male gaze and aberrant bodies.
